Hung RANNOU (1955) - Lot 62
Hung RANNOU (1955) Liberté grande, 1986 Oil on canvas Signed, titled and dated on back 180 x 150 cm Hung Rannou, born in 1955, is a French painter living in Brittany. A visual artist and teacher at the Beaux-Arts in Brest and Quimper, he is originally from Vietnam. This oriental culture is reflected in the material he likes to work with: thin paper used in several thicknesses and mounted on canvas, which takes on a crumpled appearance under the paint. The successive overlaps reveal signs, multitudes of small drawings, whose great density astonishes. Into this astonishing superposition of materials, shapes and signs (silhouettes, leaves, houses, vases, etc.) are inserted colors made from pigments - usually intense blue - and paper collages that alter the density of the material. Since the early 1980s, the artist has been slowly exploring the surface, in a singular confrontation between the power of the signs and the fragility of the elements used to reveal them. Alongside these collages, Hung Rannou has also painted huge watercolor-like canvases, whose material is just as challenging. Hung Rannou career path: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hung_Rannou
