SUQUET Antoine - Lot 18
SUQUET Antoine
Via vitae aeternaz, iconibus illustrata per Boetium a Bolswert
Antwerp, Henricus Aertssium, 1630
A large volume in-8°, full vellum, title in ink (contemporary binding)
Pious people seek this book for the text, and the curious because of the 32 engravings that decorate it said Brunet V, 577. The spiritual practices taught by Père Sucquet, one of those marvelous first-generation Jesuits, are an undeniable passport to eternal life, but it is the 32 plates that make the book so desirable: paintings of elaborate refinement, with glimpses of Hell and glimpses of Paradise, according to Mario Praz. p. 195
