Lumbo Gabon Representation of the Nzighu chimpanzee, a totem - Lot 64
Lumbo Gabon Representation of the Nzighu chimpanzee, a totemic animal linked to the Bwiti initiation rite.
This example, smaller in size than the one from the Sotheby's sale in December 2017 or the one from the Varenne auction presented in 2025, uses the same stylistic codes. However, the eyes are different, round and slightly globular, coated with kaolin, with dark hollowed pupils. The ears, around the mouth and from the knees down are tinted black (the left ear is slightly missing).
