Georges Mathieu Yassef (1943-2024), is a French painter and sculptor-ceramist.
Born in Nice, Georges Mathieu Yassef studied at the Ecole nationale d'art décoratif de Nice (1959-1964), then at the Ecole nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris (1966-1968) in the studio of painter Raymond Legueult, where he met ceramist Nelly Bonnand, his future life partner.
In 1971, he left the capital for the southern Drôme, in the small village of Bénivay-Ollon.
Here, the artist models clay, creating his famous and numerous "idols", while devoting himself to drawing and painting.
After a figurative start, with a solidly structured painting in the spirit of Georges Rouault, the artist soon turned to abstraction: a painting in which color plays a major, determined role, expressing the full shape of a moving thought.
His paintings and sculptures were exhibited in France, at the Aire du Verseau gallery (1985-1986), and in Switzerland in various galleries, Fribourg, Geneva, Montreux, Solothurn and Sion (1984-1990), with many of his creations joining private collections.
The artist exhibited his paintings in 2019 at the Galerie Moderne Héritage in Coustellet (Vaucluse).
