ZOLA Émile [Paris, 1840 - id., 1902], French writer. - Lot 44
ZOLA Émile [Paris, 1840 - id., 1902], French writer. Autograph letter signed and addressed to Mr de Fleury. Paris May 27, 1891; 2 pages in-4°. Zola arranges to meet Mr. de Fleury at his home to discuss the article in Le Figaro and Mr. de Fleury's admission to the Société des gens de lettres. "So if you'll do us the pleasure of coming, we'll talk about the Figaro article and your admission to the Société des gens de lettres, but unfortunately I won't be able to act as your godfather, something forbidden to any member of the committee. I received your beautiful book, and I am very touched by the few flattering lines you wrote about my work in your preface. I am deeply grateful to you, especially as you have taken on all the authority of a scholar. The edition is superb, some of the portraits are of a really fine and charming analysis, and I do hope you will have a success."
