FLORIAN Jean-Pierre Claris de [Sauve, 1755... - Lot 79 - Varenne Enchères
FLORIAN Jean-Pierre Claris de [Sauve, 1755 - Sceaux, 1794], French poet, fabulist, novelist and playwright. Autograph letter, signed "Florian", addressed to M. Girod. 3 1/4 pages in-8°, address. rare letter written as a gentleman of the chamber of the duke of Penthievre and concerning the death of the marquise de Breteuil. "Here is, Mr. Girod, a commssion for which you need all your intelligence and all your science. A Marquise de Breteuil died, I don't know which one, but I think you will know. He asks her, in a light tone, to inquire if the deceased is a relative of the former minister; if so, to leave a note informing the interested parties: "that M. lec de Penthievre has sent to compliment them on the death of Mme la Mse de Breteuil. As there is no one in Paris, you can do me this little favor by going this evening to find no one. [You who would hear Locke and Newton, I beg you to do this little examination tomorrow, Wednesday, to report back to me on Thursday or Friday at the latest, with all that I told you about in Paris", etc.
