DUPLEIX Joseph-François, marquis [Landrecies,... - Lot 71 - Varenne Enchères
DUPLEIX Joseph-François, marquis [Landrecies, 1697 - Paris, 1763], French administrator and colonizer, Governor of the French Establishments in the Indies.
Autograph letter signed to "Monsieur et cher frere". 1 page 1/3 in-4°.
He learned of his arrival at La Mole: "I hope that your promptness in going to Gingy as Chandasaib had asked you not to be harmful to this good man. A slower march by not passing through Gingy would have been better suited to the situation of present affairs. God grant that this lack of prudence does not plunge us into cruel embarrassments, I only have to persuade you, almost to prescribe the necessity of not abandoning this good man. I have not been able to succeed in doing so, I am mortified and hope with all my heart that I am mistaken in my fears, which are only founded on the knowledge that I have of the infidelity of the Moors... I have told you this morning to send back all your coolies with the cars to stop the depencies.
