DIANE DE FRANCE duchess of Angouleme and Etampes [Paris, 1538 - id., 1619], natural daughter of Henri II and a young Piedmontese woman Filippa Duco. She played an important political role in reconciling her brother Henry II with Henry of Navarre. She married Horace Farnese, then the marshal François duc de Montmorency.
Autograph letter signed " Diane L. de France ", addressed to the duke of Savoy, Charles Emmanuel. Saumur, November 30, 1589; 1 page folio, address, slightly pale.
She recalls the affection of her aunt Marguerite de France, duchess of Savoy: "the late Madame de Savoye vre mere has always done me the honor of loving me, and is in this world one of the Princesses to whom I have the most obligation, so I am her very humble servant. She asks the duke of Savoy to protect Fabritio de Cassant, "relative of my late mother in order to make him put back in the enjoyment of his inheritance of which he was dispossessed at the instigation of his enemies who work him hard in trials, until they made him criminal thinking by it to ruin him and to put in your bad grace. But Sir, you are such an equitable Prince"...
