CHABOT DE SAINT-GELAIS Guy I [, 1514 - ,... - Lot 53 - Varenne Enchères
CHABOT DE SAINT-GELAIS Guy I [, 1514 - , 1584], He passed to posterity thanks to his famous boot, the "coup de Jarnac" which allowed him to defeat in a duel, François de Vivonne brother of Charles, lord of La Châtaigneraie, on July 10, 1547 at the castle of Saint-Germain en Laye. Signed letter addressed to his father, Charles Chabot. Paris, March 24, 1531; 3 pages in-4. The letter evokes the entry of the Queen in Paris. Francis I had married Charles V's sister, Eleanor, in July 1530; this was one of the clauses of the Treaty of Madrid. "Sir, as much and very humbly as fere I can to your good grace recommend me. Sir, I believe that you alone have triumphed over the King's entry and I assure you, Sir, that it could not have been done to you and as it was. There is no talk of leaving this country for a month and it is said that the court will make a campaign in Saint-Jermein or in this city and that in the month of May they will withdraw to Normandy to inform you of the news from Monsieur Chandieu. [...] of the news of the war, it is said that the Turks are turning the King Don Ferrand and are making a surprise in the court of many gentlemen, who say that they will go and mainly all the young men".
